2015 School Crashers Winners

Congratulations to Woodward Elementary School!

Georgia United is excited to announce the WINNER of its 2nd annual SCHOOL CRASHERS program… Woodward Elementary School of DeKalb County! Woodward was chosen from among hundreds of nominations from schools across the state. Georgia United’s judges had a difficult time choosing just one winner from so many deserving applicants.

School Crashers is a unique program from Georgia United, which offers local schools the opportunity to apply for a facility “makeover.” The goal of the program is to bring communities together to support local schools and their school systems. Any public, private or parochial school in Georgia was eligible to submit a 250 word statement why their school should receive a makeover. The winning school was announced today with Donna Lowry, education reporter from 11 Alive, along with DeKalb County Superintendent Michael Thurmond and Georgia United CEO Debbie Smith.

Woodward Elementary School is located at 3034 Curtis Drive in Atlanta and has 1,030 students and 100 faculty/staff. They will receive their specifically requested “school makeover” project over a weekend in mid-July, so the project will be completed before the new school year in August.

There will be opportunities for community members, educators, parents and students to join Georgia United employees to volunteer for this School Crash event. Check out georgiaunitedcu.org/schoolcrashers in the coming weeks for additional information to register, to volunteer or donate supplies.

If your school was nominated and not this year’s School Crashers Winner, stay tuned for additional announcements of “runners up” schools who will receive mini-grants for their own improvement projects later this summer.
